Fire shuts down Guanghui Energy's chemical, LNG plant

Guanghui Energy of China said it has shut down operations at its production complex in Hami in western Xinjiang following an incident that left two injured. 

According to the company’s filing to the stock exchange, fire broke out on Thursday night after a gas leak at the Hami coal chemical project that has the capacity to produce 1.2 million tons of methanol and 400,000 tons of liquefied natural gas per year.

Injured workers have been rushed to the local hospital for treatment.

The company added that the fire has been put out and that the main production equipment has not been affected by the incident.

Guanghui Energy is carrying out the investigation into possible causes of the incident and is preparing to restart production at the facility.
