First Tahkoluoto OWF Blades Arrive to Finland

The first wind turbine blades for the 40MW Tahkoluoto offshore wind farm in Finland arrived to Mäntyluoto port in Pori.

The turbine installation will take place approximately from mid-June to mid-July, according to a spokesperson from Suomen Hyötytuuli Oy, the company developing the world’s first offshore wind farm designed for icy conditions.

The installation of the wind farm’s gravity based foundations will start in late May.

The offshore construction of the Tahkoluoto wind farm off Pori began last spring, with Jan De Nul preparing the seabed for the installation of the wind farm’s ten foundations and subsea cables. Jan De Nul is responsible for dredging, seabed preparation work, and the installation of foundations and wind turbines for the project.

The company announced on 3 April that its wind farm installation vessel Vole au vent will mobilise for the Finnish offshore wind farm, immediately after it completed the Nobelwind project.

The EUR 120 million Tahkoluoto offshore wind farm will comprise 10 Siemens 4MW wind turbines and is slated for commissioning during the autumn of 2017.
