Five Crew Killed in Cruise Ship Emergency Drill on Canary Islands

An emergency drill on the cruise ship Thomson Majesty became fatal for five crew members, who lost their lives on Sunday after a lifeboat fell into the sea from the ship, tied up at the port of Santa Cruz in the Canary Islands, Reuters reports.

The lifeboat fell from the height of 20 metres into the sea trapping its occupants, killing five and injuring three other crew members.

The 20-year-old cruise ship Thomson Majesty, operated by Thomson Cruises, was carrying around 1,498 passengers on board. None of the passengers were involved in the accident.

Investigation into the accident is underway.
