An Iranian helicopter on its way back from an offshore oil rig reportedly crashed into the Caspian Sea off Iran early on Sunday killing all five people on board.

According to a report by Iran’s Press TV, an English-language news and documentary network based in Tehran, the helicopter belongs to the National Iranian Oil Company (NIOC) and, at the time of the accident, it was flying from the semi-submersible drilling rig Amir Kabir.

The helicopter, reportedly carrying an offshore oil worker who had suffered a cardiac arrest, crashed off the coast of the city of Behshahr, in the east of Mazandaran province.

Press TV also said the bodies of all five victims, the patient, a health worker, and three crew members, have been recovered from the sea, but the black box remains missing.

Iran’s official news agency IRNA reported that the crash was caused by a technical failure.
