MSNG, WFDTG Participate in Paris Workshop

The Marine Strategy Navigation Group (MSNG) and the Water Framework Navigation Task Group (WFDTG) participated in the recent Workshop on synergies and differences between MSFD and WFD: How to facilitate their implementation?

The workshop took place in Paris, France on 18 and 19 June 2012. MSNG was represented by Dr. Noemi von Meijenfeldt, MSNG Chair, CEDA and the WFDTG was represented by Jan Brooke, WFDTG Chair, PIANC.

Ms Brooke’S presentation entitled “Operating in the area of WFD-MSFD overlap: practical challenges for the ports and navigation sector” explored some of the potential implications for ports, navigation and other sectors who operate on a day-to-day basis and who promote new developments in coastal water bodies.

The presentation focused on physical modifications and on the need to determine how cumulative effects are to be handled before this becomes an issue causing delay to new development proposals.
