France: Revival Plan for Le Havre Port Under Way

A stage has now been completed within the scope of the implementation of the port reform with the signature of all sale contracts of the equipment concerning the container terminals.

The Grand Port Maritime du Havre (GPMH : Port of Le Havre Authority) has just signed the last two sale contracts for the container terminals.

Call of MSC Sola

The Port of Le Havre has received the MSC Sola. She is the largest container vessel of Mediterranean Shipping Company to have berthed up to now. Delivered by the South Korean Hyundai shipyards in November 2008, MSC Sola has an OAL of 363.6 metres for a beam of 45.6 metres. This unit is allocated to the Asia- Europe service and can carry up to 11,312 TEU.

Launch of a new waterway service with the port of Gron in the Yonne “Département”

Since July 1st, 2010, Port of Le Havre has provided a waterway service connecting with the port platform of Gron, Terminal de Haute Bourgogne (Terminal of Upper Burgundy). This service is operated by Logiyonne,transport commission agents and forwarders, specialists in imports and exports, in container flows and in industrial heavy load projects. With a weekly rotation, this service provides a mixed carriage of containers and industrial loads with a transit time of 80 hours.

In the context of the collaboration set up with the port of Gron, GPMH received on 23 June last, in Le Havre, in partnership with Logiyonne and the CCI of the Yonne area, a delegation of importers and exporters from the region. This day, punctuated by visits to the Le Havre sites and talks by stakeholders in the port community, enabled the participants to make business contacts and to put their service offers into value.

Port development

In the course of its meeting of Friday, June 25th, 2010, the Supervisory Board of the Grand Port Maritime du Havre decided to carry on the drawing-up of the project of extension of port infrastructures and lengthening of the Grand Canal du Havre, according to two options and to launch the requisite studies after the public debate and the working and consultation sessions which followed it.

In other respects, during its extraordinary meeting of June 4th, the Supervisory Board approved a set of measures making it possible to launch the project of a Multimodal Terminal.
