Gabadi noted that this is first such project in China, adding that part of the technicians who will execute its first stages of development have already been mobilized.

The value of the contract Gabadi secured in April last year is at $42.1 million and the company’s Chinese unit, Gabadi Marine Engineering (Shanghai) is in charge of the contract execution.

The Spanish company said in an earlier statement that the 400 meters long and 60 meters wide containership will be the first of this size to use LNG as fuel.

The vessels are being developed with a view towards new emission regulations coming in into force in 2020, which will imply a compulsory use of alternative fuels with low sulfur levels.
