GAIL India in LNG Talks with Macquarie

GAIL India, the nation’s biggest natural gas distributor, is in talks with Macquarie Energy to buy LNG from Freeport LNG Development LP’s proposed terminal in the US, Reuters reported, citing GAIL’s chairman B. C. Tripathi.

We are in talks with several suppliers including Macquarie Energy from its Freeport plant. The talks with Macquarie are at a very nascent stage,” Tripathi told Reuters.

Freeport LNG is proposing to add liquefaction infrastructure at the existing terminal to provide export capacity of approximately 13.2 million metric tonnes per annum (mtpa) of LNG, which equates to processing approximately 1.8 Bcf/d of pipeline-quality natural gas.

Last month, Cheniere Energy Partners, L.P. has entered into a LNG sale and purchase agreement with GAIL India under which GAIL has agreed to buy approximately 3.5 million tonnes per annum of LNG from train four of the Sabinne Pass LNG terminal.
