Gas Malaysia Berhad Names New CEO

Gas Malaysia Berhad announced that Dato’ Syed Faisal Albar Syed A.R Albar will be appointed as the Chief Executive Officer of the company effective 2 January 2014, upon the retirement of its Managing Director, YBhg Datuk Muhamad Noor Hamid, on 31 December 2013.

Chairman of Gas Malaysia Berhad, Datuk Haji Hasni Harun said the appointment of Dato’ Syed Faisal Albar is a result of a thorough and deliberate process, and the board is confident that Dato’ Syed Faisal is the most suitable candidate to steer Gas Malaysia Berhad, going forward.

“Dato’ Syed Faisal Albar’s proven business acumen over a wide spectrum of industries, encompassing logistics, media, consumer products, property and banking, demonstrates his astuteness in robust business dynamics, and has made him the best person for the position of Chief Executive Officer. Dato’ Syed Faisal Albar will bring to GMB his vast corporate experience, having served in several senior executive positions in various industries. He is expected to play a significant role in driving GMB’s business and operations to the next level, while embracing its vision to be an innovative value added energy solutions provider”, Datuk Haji Hasni added.

Immediately prior to this appointment, Dato’ Syed Faisal was the Executive Director of Konsortium Logistik Berhad, a leading integrated logistics company.

In 2003, he was appointed as the Chief Executive Officer/Executive Director of the News Straits Times Press Berhad, a position he held until 2008. From 2008 to 2011, he was the Group Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of Pos Malaysia Berhad.

Presently, Dato’ Syed Faisal serves on the Board of Malaysia Airports Holdings Berhad, Hong Leong Bank Berhad and Konsortium Logistik Berhad. He also sits on the Board of Kwasa Land, and Yayasan Kelana Ehsan, a public trust entity providing fund for charitable activities.

Dato’ Syed Faisal Albar, aged 48, is a member of the Malaysian Institute of Certified Public Accountants (MICPA) and the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA). He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Barat College, USA, and AICPA Professional Certification from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, USA.

Datuk Muhamad Noor has spearheaded several key corporate developments such as the securing of additional gas supply from Petronas, the transformation of GMB from a private to public company, and more recently – yet most pivotal – the listing on GMB on the Main Board of Bursa Malaysia and the list goes on”.

Datuk Muhamad Noor has played an integral part in setting key milestones for the Company. These include achieving RM1 billion revenue mark in 2006, improving staff productivity and setting high standard for operational efficiency.
