Gasum: first direct LNG bunkering at Pori terminal

Gasum said that on October 1, its unit Skangas, bunkered the product tanker Ternsund the first time directly from its liquefied natural gas terminal in Pori, Finland. 

The terminal supplies LNG to a gas connection pipeline and offers truck loading as well as terminal-to-ship bunkering operations, and is the only place in the Gulf of Bothnia where ships can bunker directly from a terminal, Gasum said in its statement.

The facility began commercial operations at the beginning of September when deliveries of liquefied natural gas to customers began.

The 15,000 dwt Ternsund is the first of four new LNG-fueled vessels owned by the shipowner Terntank and operated by the Finnish company North European Oil Trade (NEOT).

The vessel was built at China’s Avic Dingheng Shipbuilding and is used to distribute refined oil products from the company’s refinery in Gothenburg, Sweden.

Satu Mattila, chartering manager at NEOT, noted that the company can take advantage of the bunkering services in Ternsund’s area of operation, both along the Finnish and the Norwegian coast as well as in the Gothenburg area.
