Gazprom, CNPC talk Power of Siberia progress

Vitaly Markelov, deputy chairman of Gazprom and Wang Dongjin, vice president of CNPC held talks on the progress of the Power of Siberia pipeline.

Members of the joint coordinating committee discussed the progress of the project for natural gas supplies from Russia to China via the eastern route, noting the construction is continuing on schedule.

In addition, the meeting participants addressed the companies’ collaboration with regard to underground gas storage and gas-fired power generation in China, use of gas as a vehicle fuel, and approved the 2017 work plans.

In 2014, Gazprom and CNPC signed a 30-year sale and purchase agreement for 38 billion cubic meters of gas per year to be supplied via the eastern route.

In June 2016, Gazprom and CNPC signed the memorandum of understanding on underground gas storage and gas-fired power generation in China.
