Gazprom: Macedonia Received More Than 1.0 Bcm of Russian Gas in 20 Years

Some 20 years elapsed since Gazprom group entered into a mutually beneficial partnership with Macedonia formed out of a republic of former Yugoslavia.

In 2012, Gazprom Export signed a long-term agreement on Russian natural gas deliveries with Makpetrol A.D. for a period of 15 years. After the construction of a gas pipeline was completed and officially opened in September 1997, the first blue fuel supplies started to flow into Macedonia.

“We place high importance on the cooperation with the countries of South East Europe and in particular with Macedonia,” head of representative office of Gazprom Export in Macedonia Sergei Ikonnikov said at a press briefing in Skopje. He reminded the audience that in the time span of 20 years Macedonia received more than 1.0 billion cubic meters of Russian natural gas. The volumes of gas delivered to Macedonia will increase in tune with the growth of the local gas industry.

New vistas will be opened with the construction of the South Stream gas pipeline system with a sideline as an option to link up Macedonia.
