GDF Suez becomes ENGIE

LNG player GDF Suez revealed a change in its brand name into ENGIE.

The world of energy is undergoing profound change. The energy transition has become a global movement, characterized by decarbonization and the development of renewable energy sources, and by reduced consumption thanks to energy efficiency and the digital revolution, the company said in a statement.

Gérard Mestrallet, Chairman and CEO of ENGIE said, “To meet the new challenges of this reality and to accelerate our development, we have decided to give the group a new name: ENGIE.”

This enterprise project will be based on the creation of twenty-four operational entities according to a region-centred approach within a single country or a group of countries. More decentralised, these entities will shorten response times, the company informed in an earlier statement.

The group will form ten geographical units, namely: North America; Latin America; Brazil; Africa; China; Asia-Pacific; Southern Asia/Middle East; Benelux; Northern, Central and Southern Europe; and the United Kingdom. They will have responsibility, under a single authority, for controlling all the group’s business lines in the area in question.

Five global steering entities, in light of the global scope of their activities, will complement the operational entities: E&P; LNG; EMT; Tractebel Engineering; and GTT.

The new brand name adopts the rising sun as its logo, symbolizing a new day in the world of energy.

Valérie Bernis, Executive Vice President in charge of Communications, Marketing and Environmental and Corporate Responsibility, said, “The name change symbolizes our group’s transformation. ENGIE differentiates us in a globalized market and facilitates our customer approach, closer to the field of action.”
