GDF Suez Starts Gjøa P8 Drilling

GDF Suez Starts Gjøa P8 Drilling

The Gjøa P8 exploration well, 35/9-9 in production license 153 (Gjøa), was spudded early this morning, Friday 4 October.

Operator GDF SUEZ E&P Norge AS has sublet the semi submersible drilling rig Transocean Barents from Det norske for the operation. Transocean Barents reached its destination in the northern North Sea, 61 kilometer west of Florø, on Tuesday 1. October.

The Gjøa P8 well will be drilled vertically to an estimated maximum depth of 3540 meters from a water depth of 360 meters. The drilling operation is estimated to last for 40 days.

The well is located northwest of the P1 segment of the Gjøa field. The well will be drilled on the P8 prospect, which is a structure that is separate from the Gjøa field, although the reservoir intervals are expected to be similar. In case of a discovery on the well, P8 can be a potential new segment on the Gjøa field and a tigh back to the Gjøa platform.

GDF SUEZ have operated the Gjøa platform since it commenced production in 2010, and the Gjøa P8 well will be our first well within the Gjøa area since production drilling was completed summer of 2012.

The partners in the license and the exploration well are GDF SUEZ E&P Norge AS (operator) 30%, Petoro 30%, Wintershall Norge AS 15%, Shell 12%, RWE-DEA: 8% and Statoil: 5%.
