Germany: Cable Installation at Meerwind Süd / Ost Wind Farms Complete

Germany Cable Installation at Meerwind Süd Ost Wind Farms Complete

Last weekend, VSMC installed the last cable for the Meerwind Süd | Ost wind farms by successfully accomplishing the final pull-in. A very impressive achievement: 3 load outs, 88 inter array cables and 176 pull-ins were completed on time.

With safety and quality as a top priority, VSMC finished the challenging project with no recordable incidents.

Highest standard for service

Jens Assheuer, the managing director of WindMW, was interviewed for the WAB newsletter. Explaining his concerns about the project, he said: “Our greatest worries were with the cabling, something that has caused problems in a large number of European projects. Our cable layer and producers served us very well. They installed the cabling much more quickly than anticipated, which was a pleasant surprise for us. We didn’t have to worry any more.

Meerwind Süd | Ost

The offshore wind farms Meerwind Süd | Ost are a 288 MW project located in the German Bight in the North Sea, 23 km north of the island of Heligoland. The wind farm consists of 80 wind turbines with a power output of 3.6 MW each. The location is one of the most promising in the emerging offshore wind market in Germany. RWE Innogy recently contracted VSMC to lay and bury the infield cables for the Nordsee Ost offshore wind farm, also located in the German Bight.
