Gondan Shipyard awarded Ostensjo Rederi LNG tugs deal

Gondan Shipyard said it has signed a new contract with the Norwegian Shipowner Østensjø Rederi for the construction of three LNG tugboats that will join its fleet operating at Statoil’s Hammerfest LNG terminal.

These three new escort tugs that will operate in icy environments of up to -20º C will be powered by 6-cylinder Wärtsilä 34DF dual-fuel engines.

The design of the tugs has been carried out by the designer Robert Allan in Canada, in close cooperation with Østensjø Rederi.

With 40m length and 16m beam, they will have a bollard pull of 100 tons and escort steering force of 155 tons.

Delivery is set for the first half of 2017.
