GoodBulk Bolsters Capesize Fleet

GoodBulk Ltd. has exercised options for the acquisition of two second-hand Capsizes, spending USD 68.3 million.

The two ships, built in 2011 and 2012 by Daehan, KR, feature approximately 180,000 dwt each. The vessels are expected to be delivered into the fleet by 30 September 2018 and funded with USD 47.8 million of availability under existing credit facilities and cash on hand.

Separately, the Monaco-based shipowner said that it has inked an agreement to sell a 2012 built Supramax vessel, the M/V Aquapride, to Suisse Bulkers for USD 20 million.

The vessel is expected to be delivered to its new owner between September and November 2018.

The M/V Aquapride was acquired by GoodBulk, for USD 17 million and is expected to contribute net profit of approximately USD 2.3 million.

The company said that the two transactions for part of GoodBulk’s active portfolio management strategy as it continues to increase its allocation to the Capesize segment where it sees “the best risk adjusted expected return.”

GoodBulk also has the option to acquire a third 2012-built Capesize vessel of approximately 179,000 dwt within September 2018 for USD 35.7 million.

Upon completion of the announced transactions, GoodBulk will control a fleet of 26 dry bulk vessels, including 24 Capesizes, 1 Panamax, and 1 Supramax bulker.
