Haisla Nation files for LNG export authorization

The Haisla Nation filed three separate applications with the Canadian National Energy Board looking for permission to export LNG to Asian markets. 

Applications were filed for Cedar 1, Cedar 2 and Cedar 3 LNG Export, all subsidiaries of Cedar LNG Export Development, which is Haisla Nation’s LNG export development company.

All three applications seeks a 25-year permits to export 284 Bcf/year of LNG.

The Haisla projects will be developed using either barge-based or converted Moss-style FLNG vessels. The terminals will consist of vessel-based liquefaction and processing facilities, vessel-based storage tanks, and facilities to support ship berthing and cargo loading.

“The applicants and the parent company have been working with Golar LNG with respect to FLNG vessels. The applicants plans to utilize Golar LNG’s vessels and technology, which have been designed and engineered and are currently being built in Singapore by Keppel Shipyard,” stands in the documents filed to the Canadian NEB.

Located in the Douglas Channel, Haisla Nation’s facility would be close to BC-Alberta gas fields and it is estimated that development will commence in 2017-2020.
