Heerema Wins Big Greater Changhua Contract

Heerema Marine Contractors (HMC) has secured a contract for the transport and installation of turbine foundations and the installation of offshore substations at the Greater Changhua 1 and 2a offshore wind projects in Taiwan.

HMC will utilize its vessel Aegir for the transportation and installation of 111 turbine foundations and the installation of two offshore substations at the project site off the coast of Changhua County in the Taiwan Strait.

Heerema will also be responsible for the onshore marshaling services, as well as the seabed preparations and scour protection.

The offshore work at the Greater Changhua 1 and 2a projects is scheduled to be carried out during 2021 and 2022.

“Heerema is very excited to participate in this large and unique project,” said HMC’s CEO Koos-Jan van Brouwershaven. “The collaboration between Ørsted and Heerema is characterized by a mutually outstanding attitude towards this enormous project.”

The Changhua 1 and 2a offshore wind farms will feature Siemens Gamesa 8MW turbines installed on jacket foundations some 35 to 50km off the coast. The projects will have a total capacity of approximately 900MW.
