HHI to build LNG tankers for SK E&S

Hyundai Heavy Industries of South Korea has been selected as the preferred bidder to construct up to three LNG carriers for SK E&S.

The shipbuilder expects to finalize the orders for the 180,000 cbm dual-fuel carriers in the first half of 2016, following final negotiations with SK E&S and SK Shipping, the future operator of the vessels, HHI said in a statement on Tuesday.

The ships will feature dual-fuel engines and HHI’s Hi-Gas LNG fuel sypply system.

Delivery of the vessels is expected to be completed in sequence, starting from the first half of 2019 and will transport LNG from the Freeport liquefaction facility on Quintana Island, where SK E&S booked 2.2 milion tons of liquefied natural gas per year for a period of 20 years.
