HHI Welcomes U.S. Defense Department’s Decision on Aircraft Carriers

U.S. Defense Department decided not to cut its 11 aircraft carriers fleet on Sunday. Decision was welcomed by Huntington Ingalls Industries, but according to naval experts there are still details to come about work on the next such vessel, reports Reuters.

HII is building the first of the new Ford class of carrier ships at its Newport News, Virginia shipyard, and also handles refueling and overhaul of the giant nuclear-powered vessels – work that could be lost if the Navy does not replace its aging carriers when they need to be retired.
