Cape Town Dredges First of Four Berths

The $521 million expansion at the Cape Town container terminal is progressing well, with the first of four berths to be deepened expected to come on stream in July, Transnet Port Terminals reported on Monday. Berth 601 will be the first of four 15.5 meter slots. It will serve its first vessels in July. Four Liebherr cranes will come on line for service during July and August. Berth 602 will be the next to go out of service for deepening and quay refurbishment. The terminal is phasing in work on the four berths and the Ben Schoeman basin over five years to reduce disruption.
