Australia has released graphic images of Japanese hunters harpooning whales and dragging bleeding carcases aboard a ship near Antarctica, calling it evidence of “indiscriminate” slaughter of the animals.

Japan accused the Australian government of spreading propaganda that could damage ties between the two nations.
