Australia: Labor plan to revitalise domestic shipping

Australian Federal Transport Minister Anthony Albanese has announced policies to reduce costs for the domestic shipping industry through a more favourable tax regime and measures to reinforce Australia’s maritime skills base. Ahead of the August 21 Federal Election, the Labor Party policy has won support from the Australia Maritime Union, the Australian Shipowners Association (ASA), which includes large corporations such as BHP Billiton and Rio Tinto, and Shipping Australia (SAL).
