Megayacht marina to be built

New Orleans developer Earl E. Weber Jr.’s search for a place to dock his 107-foot Dennison yacht led him to buy the old Summerfield Boat Works boatyard in Fort Lauderdale.

Weber will follow through on plans initiated by Dallas-based GreyHawk Marine Group to convert the World War II-era boatyard into a covered megayacht facility. The 26 slips are expected to cost anywhere from $2 million to $4 million each.

Pier Seventeen Marina and Yacht Club, the name of the new ownership group and the marina, already has taken reservations on a dozen slips, according to Steve Fill, who handles sales and marketing.
