NZ win gold and silver in 420s

New Zealand scored a one-two in the 420 world yachting championships off the Spanish coast today (NZ time).

Carl Evans and Peter Burling won the gold medal and a second New Zealand crew, Simon Cooke and Scott Illingworth, won the silver, with both achieving the top placings with a race to spare.

The two crews dominated the leaderboard right through the championship at Gran Canaria, with Evans and Burling being the clear points leaders all week.

They went into the final day’s racing with a big margin of 24 points.
