Hydroquest deploys river tidal turbine in Orleans

Hydroquest’s river tidal turbine has been installed in the Loire river in the city of Orleans, according to laRep news site.

The installation represents another test phase for the river tidal turbines. It is expected that the turbine will be connected to the electricity grid in March or April.

Frederic Ravel-Sibilot, representing EDF, said that there are tests that need to be carried out including checking the connection, power supply, avoiding possible contamination, before the turbine starts feeding electricity to the grid.

The electricity produced from the turbine is expected to power up to 60 homes.

Hydroquest is a French company founded in 2010. Its concept places several turbines in two counter-rotating columns in order to enhance modularity and optimise productivity according to each site. Hydroquest’s turbines can be operated remotely.
