Idemitsu Interested in Canadian Fields for LNG Imports to Japan

Idemitsu Kosan of Japan is interested in buying stakes in Canadian gas fields to secure LNG imports to Japan, Reuters reported, citing the company’s President Takashi Tsukioka as saying.

If there are good stakes in gas fields, we would like to find them in Canada, hoping to bring LNG that is as cheap as possible to Japan,” he said.

Idemitsu Kosan announced in January that it has signed an agreement with AltaGas to form the AltaGas Idemitsu Joint Venture Limited Partnership.

The Partnership plans to pursue opportunities involving exports of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) and liquefied natural gas (LNG) from Canada to Asia.
