India Willing to Resume IPI Gas Pipeline Talks

India Willing to Resume IPI Gas Pipeline Talks

Indian External Affairs Minister Salman Khurshid has voiced New Delhi’s willingness to reenter negotiations over a project that would have transferred Iranian gas to India via Pakistan.

Khurshid arrived in Tehran on Friday to attend the 17th meeting of Iran-India Joint Economic Commission, Iran’s SHANA news agency reported.

It’s worth mentioning that, IPI project had been stalled over cost of gas as well as security of the pipeline.

India has been boycotting formal talks on the project since 2007 over security concerns. Iran and Pakistan have already signed pacts to implement the long-talked project on bilateral basis.

On March 12, Iran’s President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and his Pakistani counterpart Asif Ali Zardari launched the final construction phase of the Iran-Pakistan gas pipeline on the Iran-Pakistan border.
