Interschalt: ECDIS Training Course Welcomes 2,500th Participant (Germany)

Just five years after the inception of its MET (Maritime Education and Training Center), INTERSCHALT maritime systems AG has already welcomed the 2,500th course participant.

Piers Edward Duncan Boileau-Goad comes from Great Britain and took part in an ECDIS training course. The 27-year-old holds the position of Second Officer in the service of Oceania Cruises. The cruise company regularly sends its nautical officers and captains to Schenefeld for training. Each year, about 500 captains, ship`s officers and pilots from all over the world joining the broad range of courses.For example, the group of the British special celebration guest consitsted of crew members from Croatia and Italy.

Axel Schult, head of INTERSCHALT MET, presented Second Officer Boileau-Goad with a certificate as a remembrance of the special occasion. It goes without saying that the Briton successfully passed the ECDIS course test. Boileau-Goad was enthused about the simulation possibilities provided on four ship bridges – one with a 270 degree panorama and three with a 120 degree view – and the four different manufacturer’s systems available on demand: ”The Training was marvelous, a friendly, helpful and patient instructor – Mr. Michael Neumann, who was able to answer our questions before we asked them. A wonderful set up, very lifelike. A very useful tool for both awareness of the system and reminding oneself of the training.”
