Intertek wins Ichthys LNG extension

London-based quality assurance provider Intertek has been awarded a contract to extend provision of quality assurance services into the operational phase of Inpex-led Ichthys LNG project in Western Australia.

Under the new three-year deal, Intertek will continue to provide local and global inspection, expediting and auditing services to the Ichthys LNG project throughout the remainder of construction activities and also during operation of the facilities and pipeline.

The scope of technical quality assurance services ensures the quality of materials, on-time delivery of equipment, vendor compliance and commissioning of the facility are in accordance with construction and operating standards, the company said in its statement.

Ichthys LNG project includes offshore facilities, an onshore processing facility located in Darwin and an 890 km pipeline that connects the facilities.

When construction is complete, the Ichthys LNG project will produce up to an estimated 8.9 million tonnes of LNG and 1.6 million tonnes of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) per annum as well as 100,000 barrels of condensate per day at peak.

The project, a joint venture between Japan’s Inpex, major partner Total of France, Taiwan’s CPC Corporation and the Australian subsidiaries of Tokyo Gas, Osaka Gas, Kansai Electric, Chubu Electric Power and Toho Gas, is scheduled to start production in the first quarter of 2017.
