Iran, Azerbaijan to Boost Energy Collaboration

Iran’s President Hassan Rouhani has voiced Tehran’s readiness for broadening oil and gas cooperation with Azerbaijan.

In a meeting with Azeri President Ilham Aliyev in Tehran, Rouhani said there are different economic capacities especially in the oil and gas sectors for the two countries to cooperate, Iran’s SHANA news agency reported.

“These capacities could be used as an important foundation for the development of cooperation and ties between the two countries,” the president said. Rouhani said Iran and Azerbaijan can cooperate in the construction of dams and power plants as well as exchange of technical and engineering services. He said the two governments have to clear the way for the activities of their private sectors and setting up joint business council.

“We are ready to cooperate in economic issues as well as investment in the energy sector with the government and private sectors of Azerbaijan,” Rouhani said.
