Iran Has Best Capacity to Provide Security for IPI Pipeline, Says Official

Iran has the best capacity to provide security for the Iran-Pakistan-India (IPI) gas pipeline, secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, Saeed Jalili said.

“Iran has the capability of guaranteeing security for the Iran-Pakistan-India (IPI) gas pipeline,” Jalili said during his three-day visit to India, Iran’s SHANA news agency reported.

It’s worth mentioning that, IPI project had been stalled over cost of gas as well as security of the pipeline.

“Iran has the second largest gas reserves in the world and we will welcome any step which can be used for the benefit of people,” Jalili said.

According to Indian Minister of External Affairs Salman Khurshid, New Delhi and Tehran would likely hold talks on Iran-Pakistan-India (IPI) gas pipeline at a joint commission meeting in the first quarter of the year.

Under a contract between the two countries, Iran will export annually 7.8 billion cubic meters of gas to the neighboring country as of March 2014.
