Iran, Russia Discuss Energy Cooperation

Iran’s minister of petroleum Rostam Qasemi and visiting Russian energy minister Sergei Shmatko reviewed current and future bilateral energy ties in a meeting held Sunday evening in Tehran.

During the meeting two officials emphasized on speedy implementation of the joint energy roadmap the two countries reached agreement on it last year, Iran’s SHANA news agency reported.

It’s worth mentioning that the two sides announced their opposition to laying any gas pipeline in the Caspian Sea waters due to environmental concerns, protection of marine resources and preventing of pollution.

The two ministers stated that they support of their common views at the Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF) and other regional and international energy organizations in order to play a constructive role in secure gas demand and supply to the benefit of both producers and consumers.

Mutual cooperation in development of oil and gas fields and support for transfer of technology and know-how in different sectors were the other issues Iran and Russian top energy officials stressed on.

During the meeting, the Russian side expressed its readiness to take part in studying Iran’s projects on raising recovery rate from oil reservoirs.
