Iran Set on Bringing Shipping Lines Back to Its Ports

Iran is set on persuading shipping lines to return to the country’s ports and reinstate commercial operation as the talks on potential deal between Tehran and the West on lifting of sanctions against Iran gain momentum.

During the Nineteenth International Terminal Operations Conference and Exhibition (TOC) in Singapore, the Managing Director of Iran’s Ports and Maritime Organization (PMO) held separate meetings with the senior executives of major international shipping lines active in Europe and Asia, and talked about the resumption of their commercial interaction with the sea ports of the Islamic Republic of Iran.

Mohammad Saeednejad pointed to the positive results of international negotiations, and full preparation of Iranian ports for receiving large container vessels.

In addition, the PMO Head met with high-ranking officials in charge of Singapore Port (PAS) and discussed expanding bilateral and international cooperation opportunities, assessing joint cooperation in regard to port and maritime activities, and promoting technical, special and engineering knowledge

During the meetings, the Deputy Minister of Road and Urban Development addressed the groups interested in investment and partnership for construction projects in the sea ports of this country, and presented the opportunities created in the Iranian container ports, highlighting container terminals active in the Shahid Rajaee Port Complex, development plans for the Ports of Imam Khomeini, Chabahar and Bushehr.

Iran is expected to seal the deal with six powers by June 30 that would relieve the sanctions against the country, however; Iranian President Hassan Rouhani said on Saturday that the deal might be delayed if world powers brought new issues into play.
