Iraq Unveils Plan for New Grand Faw Port

Iraq issues tender for construction of breakwater and service pier at Basra’s new Grand Faw Port, reports Port Technology.

The breakwater for the giant port, to be known as Grand Faw, is expected to cost around $340 million.

Omran Rahdi Thani, general manager of the General Company for Ports of Iraq, said: “When Grand Faw Port is completed it will shorten the time to reach Europe from 20 days to three or four.”

Iraq’s Transport Ministry said that the bids must be submitted by July, with interested parties invited to attend a meeting to discuss the details of the tender on May 28th.
