Adriatic LNG terminal off the Italian Veneto coastline has received it first liquefied natural gas cargo from the US.

The cargo was sourced from Cheniere’s Sabine Pass liquefaction plant in Louisiana, currently the only such facility to ship US shale gas overseas.

The cargo departed from the Sabine Pass plant on August 22 and arrived at the offshore terminal 20 days later, Adriatic LNG said in a statement without providing any additional info.

Since start-up in 2009, Adriatic LNG has received 545 carriers and delivered more than 45 billion cubic meters of gas to the national grid.

The terminal mainly imports LNG from the world’s largest producer, Qatar.
