Japan: Feb LNG Imports at 7.67 Million Tonnes

Japan’s LNG imports reached 7.67 million mt in February, a rise of 22.5 percent compared to a year earlier, according to preliminary data released today by the finance ministry.

The country’s LNG import cost averaged $849.95/mt in January.

Japan, the world’s largest LNG importer, imported 8.15 million mt of LNG  in January, up 28.2 percent from a year before.

The country’s monthly LNG imports have been rising steadily year on year, due to the devastating earthquake and tsunami in March 2011.
