Japan: KEPCO Hires Larger Vessel from NYK

KEPCO Hires Larger Vessel from NYK

NYK and the Kansai Electric Power Co. (KEPCO) have agreed to change a bulk carrier currently being used for KEPCO shipments — i.e. Maizuru Bishamon (deadweight tonnage: 88,000 tons) — to a larger vessel, Sunrise Salute (deadweight tonnage: 95,708 tons), which was delivered in December 2012.

This change is scheduled to take place in April 2013, and the port of registry is planned to change to the port of Maizuru, Japan, this autumn. This vessel change is expected to improve the transportation efficiency of the coal being shipped to KEPCO’s Maizuru Power Plant by providing an optimal vessel shape.

“NYK will continue its efforts to help maintain a stable supply of energy resources by responding to the diverse needs of its customers,” the company said in a press release.
