Japan: utilities LNG use drops in October

The ten regional electric power companies in Japan consumed 4.49 million tonnes of LNG in October, down 2.8 percent compared to the same month in 2013.

The power companies bought 5 million tonnes of LNG in October, a drop of 1.1 percent as compared to a year ago, data from the Federation of Electric Power Companies of Japan (FEPC) showed.

Japan’s power companies consumed 27.4 million tonnes and bought 28.6 million tonnes of LNG in the six months to end September.

Power companies account for about two-thirds of total Japanese LNG imports.
