Japan’s LNG imports drop in April

Japan’s imports of liquefied natural gas dropped 3.3 percent in April, preliminary data from Japan’s Ministry of Finance showed on Monday.

The world’s largest buyer of the chilled fuel imported 6.38 million mt of LNG in April, as compared to 6.6 million mt in the same month a year ago.

Japan paid about US$2.11 billion for LNG imports in April, down 44.5 percent on year, according to the data.

The country’s imports of liquefied natural gas reached 8.15 million mt in March, up by 0.1 percent as compared to the same month in 2015. This was the first increase in Japan’s monthly LNG imports in 2016.
