Japan’s average price of spot liquefied natural gas (LNG) that was contracted in February edged up to US$8.5 per mmBtu, the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) said on Thursday.

The contract-based price rose the fifth month in a row, from $8.4 per mmBtu in January, which was the two-year high record for the month.

METI’s data also shows that the price of spot LNG arriving into Japan during the month of February reached $8.8 per mmBtu, up from $7.3 per mmBtu in January.

Only spot LNG cargoes are taken into account in this assessments, excluding short, medium and long-term contract cargoes, as well as those linked to a particular price index.
