JBIC funds LNG newbuilds acquisition

The Japan Bank for International Corporation (JBIC) recently agreed to fund the acquisition of two LNG carriers by Diamond LNG Shipping, a company jointly owned by Mitsubishi Corporation and Nippon Yusen Kabushiki Kaisha.

Two separate loans with a total amount of  JPY 41.6 billion (approximately US$340 million) are cofinanced with Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation, The Bank of Tokyo-Mitsubishi UFJ and Sumitomo Mitsui Trust Bank, JBIC said in its statement.

Out of the total loan amount, JBIC will provide JPY 29.1 billion (approximately 242 US$ million).

The two 165,000 cbm vessels, that are scheduled for delivery in 2018 will transport LNG to Japan from the Cameron project in Louisiana in which both NYK and Mitsubishi Corporation have equity interest.
