JDR unveils plans for new sevice center in Newcastle

JDR, a supplier of subsea power cables and umbilicals to the offshore energy industry, has unveiled its plan to open a new European service support center in Newcastle.

JDR said on Tuesday that the center would consist of a 4000 square meter facility including a workshop, warehouse, and offices.

The facilities will be located on the River Tyne and act as the central base for JDR’s UK and European service operations. The center will house up to 50 staff which will coordinate JDR’s service activities in the Middle East and Asia as well. The center will also serve as a base for the sales and marketing teams.

The location was selected for its proximity to projects in the North Sea and Europe, JDR’s Hartlepool facility, and the local supply chain with an aim to support anticipated growth, said JDR.

The company noted that the Newcastle center is a result of a rise in demand for JDR’s service work, including offshore installation support and maintenance activities. Furthermore, clients will be provided with technical support for activities associated with deployment, installation and commissioning, repair, and decommissioning for both onshore and offshore sectors.

Ivan Coyard, JDR CFO, said: “We are very excited to announce this new European service center. We expect our service contracts to increase significantly as we continue to build on our recent successes, delivering cables and umbilicals globally to the offshore energy industry.”

The Newcastle facility, including offices, is expected to be operational by the third quarter of 2017.
