JMP’s Transport Expertise Supports Plans for Major Wind Turbine Manufacturing Plant (UK)

JMP is preparing a Transport Assessment to support a planning application for a major wind turbine manufacturing plant to be built on the north Lincolnshire coast at Killingholme near Immingham.

Able UK will be making the application to the Infrastructure Planning Commission for a Marine Energy Park, which will provide approximately 4,200 jobs. We are liaising closely throughout the process with the Highways Agency and North Lincolnshire Council.

The proposed development consists of a new quay, with associated onshore facilities to accommodate off-shore wind turbine manufacture, assembly and installation, as well as the associated supply chain factories.

The site includes approximately 118ha of land that has the benefit of extant planning consents for port-related storage. Approximately 150,000 sq metres of manufacturing floor space is proposed to provide the required facilities for original equipment manufacturers.

Construction is envisaged to start in early 2012 and last approximately 24 months, with the facility part operational by 2014.

The development, purpose-built to meet the needs of the renewable energy sector, forms a key part of meeting the Government’s strategy for achieving the targets for renewable energy provision in the UK.
