JX Nippon Oil & Energy on Monday said that the Train 9 at the Petronas LNG complex in Bintulu, Sarawak started commercial operations earlier this month.

JX Nippon O&E purchased 10 percent stake in the Train 9 project in June last year. The train has a production capacity of 3.6 million tons per annum.

With the addition of the Train 9, the Petronas LNG Complex in Bintulu, Sarawak now has the capacity to produce approximately 30 million tons per year.

Malaysian energy giant Petronas produced the commissioning cargo at the Train 9 in October last year.

This is the second participation of the Japanese company in Petronas’ LNG projects, in addition to the 10 percent equity interest in MLNG Tiga.
