The Viking Star “laying of the keel” ceremony, a formal recognition of a milestone in a ship’s construction, recently took place at Fincantieri Marghera yard, Italy.

Viking Star will have a gross tonnage of about 47,800 tons and 464 cabins with accommodation for 944 passengers. The ship has been designed by SMC Design of London, while Rottet Studio in Los Angeles has been engaged to design its interior.

The vessel, classified by the Lloyd’s Register, features an overall length of 745.4 ft. (227.2m), beam of 94.5 ft. (28.8 m) and a draft of 20.7 ft. (6.3 m).

Delivery of the Viking Star is scheduled for early 2015.
