Keppel Delivers New Jack-up to Malaysia's UMW

Singapore’s offshore rig builder Keppel FELS has delivered the jackup rig UMW Naga 4 to UMW Oil & Gas Corporation Sdn. Bhd., based in Malaysia.

According to Keppel’s press release, the rig was completed five days ahead of schedule, on budget and with a perfect safety record.

The handover ceremony was on Saturday, February 16, 2013 at Keppel FELS.

Chow Yew Yuen, Chief Operating Officer of Keppel O&M commented, “We are glad to have new customer UMW choose the KFELS B Class as their preferred rig design. It is ideally suited to meet the current shortage of high specification rigs needed for shallow water fields and can be deployed in many parts of the world.”

UMW Naga 4 is built to Keppel’s proprietary KFELS B Class design. The Singapore-based rig constructor has another 16 KFELS B Class/Super B Class rigs on order.

Keppel has had a very active start to 2013. UMW Naga 4 is the fourth consecutive rig that Keppel FELS has delivered ahead of schedule this year.

The company in January announced that in 2013 it would be completing a record of 22 newbuild units.

Caspian aspirations

Also, Keppel recently established a new subsidiary, Caspian Rigbuilders. According to an e-mail sent by Keppel to Offshore Energy Today, the new subsidiary, Caspian Rigbuilders, is set up in anticipation of future offshore construction projects which Keppel Offshore & Marine may undertake in the Caspian Sea region.
