Japan’s Kawasaki Heavy Industries held a naming ceremony at its Sakaide shipyard for the new liquefied natural gas carrier owned jointly by NYK and JERA.

The vessel, capable of transporting 177,277 cubic meters of the chilled fuel, was named Shinshu Maru, NYK said in a statement.

Shinshu Maru has an overall length of 299.9 meters, breadth of 48.9 meters and features dual-fuel diesel-electric engines.

The ship will be delivered in February 2019 and assigned to transport LNG for a 20-year period from the Freeport LNG Project in Texas, in the United States, in which JERA has an equity interest.

NYK will be responsible for ship management of the vessel, the statement reads.
