Kinemetrics to Install Underwater Seismic Stations Off Azerbaijan

Representatives of US-based earthquake monitoring company Kinemetrics arrived in Azerbaijan to determine the technical conditions of underwater seismic stations and examine the platforms where the seismic stations will be installed, APA reported.

The earthquake monitoring systems will be installed in Umid, Bahar and Guneshli fields. The stations will be installed in seabed 350-400 m from the coast, but the transmitters will be installed on the platforms. Protection of the seabed communication lines and oil pipes will also be in the focus of attention.

“The stations have already been assembled and will be brought to Azerbaijan after determining the technical conditions. The stations are expected to be installed until September”, APA quoted Gurban Yetirmishli, Director General of the Republican Seismological Service of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences, as saying.

The company also plans to install seven more seismic stations in the Azerbaijani sector of the Caspian Sea after installation of first three.
